Good day everyone,
I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at the recent press release from the charity Make-A-Wish, who are seeking donations via crypto.
Make-A-Wish Seeks Crypto Donations
The Arizona-based organisation, Make-A-Wish, is asking for crypto donations through its partnership with digital asset donation vehicle The Giving Block. Known for its outreach to critically ill children, the news was broke in a press release earlier this week. The organisation is hoping to increase their crypto donations this year as they strive to increase their outreach to seriously ill children ahead of the holiday season.
It is estimated that 100,000 children will be diagnosed with a critical illness in December alone, according to the foundation, and 98% of children and their parents claim the experience that Make-A-Wish can create is important to the ill child. Luciano Manzo, President and CEO at Make-A-Wish International, noted:
“Supporting charitable initiatives with cryptocurrency sends the message that crypto has a purpose beyond financial gains—it can change lives and create meaningful social impact. Critical illness steals childhood from a child but, through helping to grant wishes, this unique group of donors has the power to restore childhood and build resilience in these children.”
The news comes during an increasing interest in the power of digital assets and their ability to help enact powerful social change. The Giving Block’s 2024 Annual Industry Report on the State of Crypto Philanthropy noted that more than $2 billion worth of cryptocurrency is estimated to have been donated by January 2024.
Over 56% of top U.S. charities currently accept crypto donations, and these include t Jude’s Children Research Hospital, United Way, Direct Relief, Feeding America, and Good 360. This marks a 12% increase from the previous year, and almost 68% are making use of the Giving Block's services to fundraise their digital assets.
The collaboration between Make-A-Wish and The Giving Block began years ago, when they provided children living with critical illnesses like cancer and neurological conditions the opportunity to look forward to an experience akin to making their wishes come true. The organisations most recent press release noted how the partnership allowed Make-A-Wish to expand its efforts into three new countries. Pat Duffy, Co-Founder of The Giving Block, stated:
“Cryptocurrency presents the greatest intersection of wealth, youth, and motivation to give. With 600 million users globally and trillions of dollars invested, nonprofits that do not tap into this movement risk being left in its wake. We are thrilled to partner with Make-A-Wish International to welcome the next generation of donors.”
Currently, The Giving Block’s website accepts donations in Ethereum, Bitcoin and USDC. You con make a donation to the Make-A-Wish foundation on The Giving Block here:
