I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at the recent launch of Ledger Flex and a new Ledger App by the Cold Wallet firm Ledger.
Ledger Flex
The French startup company Ledger, known for its secure crypto hardware wallets, have launched a new cold wallet crypto device known as the Ledger Flex. It is available for around $249 and the hardware wallet features an E-Ink display to navigate the interface and approve transactions with a tap. The crypto firm introduced the product during the 2024 Bitcoin conference in Nashville and the crypto wallet will support two-factor authentication (2FA) along with being compatible with both mobile and desktop devices.
Ledger Chairman and CEO Pascal Gauthier noted that the launch of both Ledger Flex and Ledger during 2024 shows the company's desire to redefine the customer self-custody experience. He went on to note that Ledger devices store more than 20% of the global digital assets and their new touchscreen feature would improve the accessibility to enterprises and customers.
“It is the first secure touchscreen; the first time a touchscreen user interface has been driven by a secure element chip, which is crucial for crypto security.
Earlier this year Ledger launched a new security key known as Ledger Flex, which is built around a secure element where the private keys of your wallet are safely stored. Therefore even if a users computer or phone is compromised, their crypto assets are safe as they can’t leave the wallet without the private key. This helps to secure users wallets via passkey capabilities and two-factor authentication (2FA).
The alternative to making use of a cold wallet would be to store assets on a centralised exchange, or make use of a hot wallet or paper wallet. While all storage systems have their own pros and cons, making use of Ledger ensures users are in control of their crypto and not allowing a third party, such as an exchange, hold their crypto on their behalf.
Ledger have also noted that their app is intended to protect customers’ data, which has become an even bigger issue in a future dominated by AI challenges such as deep fakes. These concerns have been addressed through new touchscreen features which will provide proof of identity along with proof of humanity.
Ledger’s Chief Experience Officer, Ian Rogers, noted how user security is not assured without a secure screen. He heaped praise on the developments of touch screen features on both Ledger Flex and Stax and noted how they are fully secure touchscreen devices. He went on to reveal that the screens are battle-tested by Donjon and third parties. The curved E-Ink display of the Ledger Flex, designed by Tony Fadell who also designed the iPod, did pose some industrial challenges which occasioned delays.
The hardware crypto wallet has a black and steel design, while it is also available on a 2.8-inch display that enhances visibility. The E-Ink feature will help to improve the devices battery life, meaning it can last for months at a time on a single charge. The device will also include a USB-C port and NFC capabilities.
