Keanu Reeves Backs Crypto

Keanu Reeves Backs Crypto

Good day everybody,

Welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. Today I will be doing a write up on the recent news from 'The Matrix' star Keanu Reeves, where he mentions his interest in Crypto and how he has become a fan of it.

Keanu Reeves the Crypto Fan

In a recent interview with Wired magazine, in which Keanu Reeves promoted his new film “John Wick 4,” he is said to have praised cryptocurrencies. He stated his interest in the emerging technology of Web3 and his interest in its implement into the modern and future world we live in.

“I think the principle, the ideas behind an independent currency, are amazing. To pooh-pooh crypto, or the volatility of cryptocurrency, it’s only going to make it better in terms of how it’s safeguarded.”

Clearly unabated by the unpredictable nature and volatility of crypto, Reeves also added his thoughts on NFTs, AI, and digital art in general. He is particularly interested in the emergence of digital art technologies like AI and NFTs, seeing them as something which modern kids are growing up with. Similar to those who grew up around the technology of mobile phones and the internet, modern youths are growing up in the world of NFTs and crypto.

"People are growing up with these tools: We’re listening to music already that’s made by AI in the style of Nirvana, there’s NFT digital art.”

However, the caveat he added was his worry about the corporations and centralised control of those behind the 'cool machines' which create digital music and art. Reeves understand the impact that those corporations having control on these things will have on the wider public, with an ever increasing concern growing about private data control and big business making use of AI to garner even more big data on consumers.

He has also become involved in the NFT space of late, having originally dismissed NFT art as something which can be “easily reproduced," in an interview to promote “The Matrix Resurrections,” Reeves has since decided to become an advisor for the digital art charity "The Futureverse Foundation." This charity aims to fund artists which are looking to break into the NFT space, and support them in doing so. Its overall aim is to make the NFT space and Metaverse accessible for more people, focusing on those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

When pushed on his thoughts regarding how Meta (formerly Facebook) impacted the metaverse in an accessible way, Reeves did not hold back.

“It’s like they’ve created more land. There’s more land for sale. It’s wealth creation and it’s opportunity.”

He remains sceptical regarding the practical use of the metaverse, add that he felt it could be used as a 'system of control and manipulation' over unsuspecting consumers. We are still in a very primitive state in terms of the metaverse, and he is eager for it to be developed in a non controlling way.

Keanu Reeve's History with Crypto

It has been documented throughout the years that Keanu Reeve's has had associations with crypto here and there.  Back in 2015 Reeves took part in a documentary tilted “Deep Web.” He was the narrator of this movie which told the story of the founder of Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht. For those who are unaware of the Silk Road, it was a marketplace on the deep web which was famed for its sale of illicit things, and often the transactions were completed through the use of Bitcoin. At the time of the Silk Roads closure in October 2013 when Ulbricht was arrested, around 170,000 Bitcoin were seized by the authorities, which would equate to around $3.7 billion at today’s prices.

Reeves has also previously admitted he is a HODLER, specifying that he has "a little HODL" after a friend of his purchased some crypto on his behalf. He never specified when the crypto was purchased or what particular coin he had invested in, but Reeves did admit that he has not touched it since it was purchased due to the fact he has not needed to. A true HODLER, the dream of all invested in crypto is to hold it long-term and make their fortune from it. However, the fact Reeves has already made his fortune from an excellent film career has made it somewhat easier for him to HODL, in my opinion anyway. That is in no way meant in a bad way either, in fact its great that from all he could be doing he chose to get involved with some crypto.

All in all its a positive sign to see someone as reputable as Reeves discussing crypto in this manner. While he has changed his tune (somewhat) on NFTs and the likes, he is seeing positive things ahead in how crypto will develop. For all involved in crypto, this is music to our ears.

Have a great day.

Peace. CryptoGod-1.
