AI Deepfake Warning
The CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao (CZ), had made a stark warning in terms of the potential for AI-enabled deepfake videos posing a threat and significant risk to the cryptocurrency space. This is in reference to the AI-powered video post featuring Joshua Xu, CEO of HeyGen, where CZ noted that such videos are “pretty scary from a video verification perspective.”
The tweet, as shown above, was made by Xu and included a 100% AI-generated videos of his own avatar and voice clone. He went on to state that this feature will soon be deployed to production for everyone to try, meaning that the AI video generator would only take around two minutes to create a real-looking digital avatar.
As part of the Binance know-your-customer (KYC) verification process, users are required to submit a video verification along with a picture of the user’s ID card or passport. According to the chief security officer of Binance, Jimmy Su, AI tech is very “advanced” and soon deepfakes might become undetectable by a human verifier.
A crypto project known as DeepFakeAI, which has created superimposed videos of Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk, SEC Chair Gary Gensler and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, has recently been gaining traction within the crypto community. As part of the platform users are able to customize and create AI-powered videos through deepfake technology, and are also able to access the platform’s services through a native bot.
The native token of the platform is dubbed FAKEAI, and it provides specific benefits like free access to certain packages on the platform. At the time of writing, the price of FAKEAI is trading at $0.0002632. While the technology is amazing and could have a myriad of potential uses, it also has created fear among many crypto influencers, users and investors for the challenge it could pose to the community.
