Glamsterdam Upgrade Delayed
The developers at Ethereum have decided to delay the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet following a discovery of potential security risks. These risks involve existing smart contracts meaning the next major development milestone is left in limbo without an official date.
The Ethereum Foundation made the announcement of the delay and it comes as ETH trades under $2,400. Developers are hoping the additional time will allow them to investigate how proposed gas-accounting changes will impact existing smart contracts on the Ethereum network.

The delay is important but it raises questions over the previously expected broader Ethereum Glamsterdam rollout. Previously it had been expected in December 2026, but the postponement of the Hoodi test it is not unclear. The Hoodi test will allow for testing of the upgrade prior to full deployment on the mainnet.
ETH continues to trade around the $2,400 mark and it remains to be seen if these delays will had further impacts on its price. The Glamsterdam update delay mainly focuses on how EIP-8037, a proposal that changes how Ethereum accounts for gas costs associated with creating blockchain state, will impact existing smart contracts. Many feel there are scenarios in which the proposed gas changes could end up impacting the contracts and leaving them with different amounts of gas than previously anticipated.
Resolving the security concerns, rescheduling Hoodi testing, and ensuring Ethereum’s development roadmap continues is the main focus for now. A resolved path towards the deployment on the mainnet will certainly help to ensure prices of ETH remain stable.
