Good day everyone,
I hope you are all well and had an excellent week, welcome to CryptoGod-1’s blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at Geekverse, a NFT marketplace linked to Web3 games and created by popular gaming keys distributor G2A.
“Geekverse”
The gaming keys distributor G2A has launched a marketplace for NFTs which will be linked to Web3 games, according to a press release released on Wednesday the 15th of November 2023. Known as "Geekverse," the platform will have a primary goal of garnishing exposure to Web3 and NFT games curated by the G2A team. This new initiative by the company will allow gamers to explore the world of blockchain gaming while also showcasing NFTs from specific games which have decided to partner with G2A.
The CEO of G2A Capital Group, Bartosz Skwarczek, noted in the company statement that they have been monitoring the development of the blockchain gaming sector since the initial launch of Cryptokitties back in November 2017:
“We have been following the development of this technology from the very beginning when blockchain and NFTs emerged in gaming through Cryptokitties. For us, it was natural to closely monitor the entertainment segment of the industry. We wanted to find out how closely gamers are related to technology and concepts of blockchain gaming. It turned out that players are quite familiar with the blockchain gaming industry, and a significant portion of them already play web3 games and have even engaged in NFT trading from games. Considering these factors, we decided to create an online space for enthusiasts of decentralized games – and place where users will find information about the best web3 games, and most importantly, they will have the opportunity to buy and sell digital assets associated with these games. Web3 is a natural extension of Web2, and G2A, as an all-digital marketplace, is in the vanguard of technological solutions in the digital world.”
This dedicated NFT marketplace not only allows G2A the chance to promote their own NFTs, but its also showcases their commitment to embracing emerging technologies within the gaming industry. Users will be able to purchase and sell NFTs from collections related to the games of G2A’s partners while the marketplace will also host contests, giveaways, and in-game item drops. They have also been clear that the marketplace will honour any royalties set by NFT collection creators. To entice creators and collectors alike, they are currently offering zero transaction fees on all NFT sales for limited period of time.
Currently the supported blockchains as part of this venture include Ethereum, Polygon, and BNB Chain. There are also plans down the line to introduce G2A-themed NFTs in the future. G2A have also noted their ambition to expand the number of supported blockchains down the pipeline while also facilitating fiat payments and furnishing tools to assist partners in promoting their NFT collections.
G2A claim to have an existing total shopper base of over 25 million users for its primary offerings. These offerings will include digital codes for video games and add-on content, as well as digital subscription plans. The idea behind this is to help "Geekverse" compete with other crypto-native NFT marketplaces such as Blur, OpenSea, and Magic Eden. The appeal that "Geekverse" can bring to the table is their more mainstream platform status, which can be appealing to those not already familiar with blockchain gaming and NFTs.
With traditional gaming distributors showing more interest in the Web3 gaming sector, which has been proven via the inclusion of Gods Unchained in the Epic Games Store in June, G2A will be looking to maximise on the potential growth in the sector. Gods Unchained, a collectible trading card game utilizing NFTs, features gameplay akin to popular titles such as Magic: The Gathering and Hearthstone. A month after Epic Games included the game, the Google Play Store began accepting NFT games under specific restrictions. It was made clear that games offering NFTs for sale or as earnings would be permitted, but clarified that it would not allow gambling with NFTs.
Good news for those interested in the Web3 and NFT gaming space. Will it make a comeback in the next big bull-run? More importantly, will NFT's become a mainstay in the gaming industry or will they just fade away after a multitude of failed attempts at adoption? Only time will tell.
Have a great day,
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
