Argentina High School Curricula
The nation of Argentina has announced via the Ministry of Education of the City of Buenos Aires that they have partnered with the ETH Kipu Foundation to introduce Ethereum and blockchain technology into the high school curriculum. This initiative will put Argentina ahead of other Latin America nations and will aim to help students obtain the skills necessary to thrive in the emerging tech economy. This will begin on the 27th of August 2024, and it will be focused on students in the high schools in Buenos Aires. These students will have the chance to engage in professional internships focused on blockchain projects.
Along with the in-school programs, this partnership will allow for the development of an online Solidity course. Solidity is a programming language used to develop Ethereum applications. This course will be accessible for 500 students over the age of 18, and it will provide them with the required tools to become active participants in the Ethereum development community.
The expectancy of this training will be for the young Argentines to develop applications that can be integrated into local business operations. In the long term this could potentially boost the nations economic prospects. In a bid to ensure the initiative is successful, the ETH Kipu Foundation has also committed to training 30 teachers through a hybrid training program focused on Ethereum and blockchain technology.
There is no available information currently on whether or not this program will be expanded to other cities or provinces in Argentina, but the initial efforts show that the nation is making a significant stride in their ambitions of embracing digital innovation. A co-founder of the ETH Kipu Foundation, Paula D., noted her optimism when she stated:
“By integrating Ethereum education into high schools, we’re not just teaching students about technology—we’re giving them the tools to shape the future. This initiative will open up new career opportunities for young people and place Argentina at the forefront of the global blockchain movement.”
Previously this year the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, decided to remove the proposed crypto tax law from a controversial omnibus reform package in a bid to expedite the approval of a set of reforms. That bill was known as the “Ley Ómnibus” or the “Law of Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines,” and it initially included a provision which would require taxpayers to declare ownership of previously undisclosed assets, including cryptocurrencies.
The Minister of Interior Guillermo Francos announced that the removal of these clauses was due to the need for rapid economic development and legislative efficiency as the driving factors. With the nation currently experiencing severe inflation and recording the fourth-highest annual inflation rate in the world at 200%, the country also has one of the fastest growing cryptocurrency markets. Argentina is noted to have the second highest rate of digital asset ownership at 23.5%, only second to Türkiye at 27.1%.
