Trump Jr. Plans for DeFi Platform
Donald Trump Jr. has recently announced his plans to launch a new decentralised finance (DeFi) crypto platform which he hopes will help to address the inequality in banking access. While the platform is still in its early stages and will take time to become a reality, he noted during a Q&A on the 8th of August that it will be a crypto platform to take on the banks. The eldest son of presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump, said:
“What we’re talking about is a larger type of platform, and it will be a long time before we can do anything.”
No more information was provided from Trump Jr. on the platform, but he did emphasise that it would be targeting the banking system.
“What we want to do is take on a lot of the banking world. I think there has been a lot of inequality in that only certain people can get financing [...] so this notion of decentralized finance is obviously very appealing to guys like me who have been debanked.”
There had been rumours that a new crypto offering was in the line after Trump mentioned DeFi in a post on 'X' dated the 7th of August. Many believed it could be related to a new memecoin launch. Trump said:
“We’re about to shake up the crypto world with something HUGE. Decentralized finance is the future — don’t get left behind.”
Eric Trump, the brother of Donald Trump Jr, noted something similar when he posted on 'X' “I have truly fallen in love with crypto/DeFi. Stay tuned for a big announcement.”
During the Q&A the rumours regarding the Restore the Republic (RTR) memecoin were also addressed. That coin had surged and crashed amid false rumours of association with the Trump family. The coin crashed over 70% after Eric Trump denied it had any association with the Trump family.
