Good day everyone,
I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at the recent prison sentence handed to Craig Wright.
Craig Wright Sentenced To One Year In Prison
Back in March a Judge in the United Kingdom ruled that Craig Wright was not Satoshi Nakamoto. Now the man who fraudulently claimed to be Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto has received a one year prison sentence for being in contempt of court. It also contains a two year suspension as the sentence was handed down by Judge James Mellor.
This sentence arrived after Wright had filed an over $1 trillion lawsuit against X founder Jack Dorsey and Bitcoin developers at large as he claimed to be the pseudonymous creator of the cryptocurrency. Judge Mellor ruled that Wright was in violation of a court order previously handed out in the year and that mandated the computer scientist stop pursuing legal action in the U.K. against those who deny his claims of being Nakamoto. Judge Mellor stated:
“When it comes to the grounds of contempt I have found each of them provable beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The suspended sentence mean Wright will only end up behind bars if he reoffends within the two year suspension time frame. Wright allegedly appeared during the hearing via a livestream link and he declined to comment outside of announcing his intention to appeal the ruling.
For a long time Craig Wright has been seen as a controversial figure and in recent years he has faced plenty of international controversy for his claim to being Satoshi Nakamoto. Judge Mellor ruled back in March that there was “overwhelming” evidence he is not the Bitcoin creator.
The case against Wright was launched by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a non-profit dedicated to the advancement of cryptocurrencies which are funded by key players in the emerging tech sector. This includes the likes of Dorsey and Coinbase, and they saw key proof-of-work developer Adam Back testify against Wright. Under the headline "12 reasons why Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto", The COPA website states:
“It is now clearer than ever – clear beyond any doubt – that Dr Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.”
As part of the court order Wright has since updated his website with a legal notice stating that he is not actually Nakamoto. This details that he lied “extensively and repeatedly” while he “attempted to create a false narrative by forging documents ‘on a grand scale.’” He website reads:
“In advancing his false claim to be Satoshi through multiple legal actions, Dr Wright committed “a most serious abuse” of the process of the courts of the UK, Norway and the USA.”
Have a great day.
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
