Welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be discussing the recent achievement of Bitcoin by recording more than 1.6 million daily transactions.
1.6M Confirmed Daily Transactions
A mere three days after the Bitcoin halving event, a record-breaking 1.6 million unique Bitcoin transactions were processed on the 23rd of April 2024. This is according to data from Blockchain.com and Glassnode, and the transaction surge signifies a growing interest in the everyday use of Bitcoin beyond its traditional use of a store of value.
The launch of Bitcoin Runes, an alternative to Bitcoin Ordinals, was part of a direct correlation with the rise in Bitcoin daily transactions. On the 23rd of April Bitcoin Runes accounted for 68% of all Bitcoin transactions.
By the 29th of April Bitcoin reasserted its dominance with 77.8% of Bitcoin transactions, Runes maintained a strong second position with an 18.8% share. The remainder of the network activity was used between protocols like Ordinals and BRC-20 tokens. Bitcoin Runes has generated over 1,200 BTC in transaction fees for miners since the Bitcoin halving event, and has become a powerful incentive for miners with this emerging protocol and its economic viability.
The emergences of BRC-20 and Runes tokens has created a new standard known as Bitcoin DeFi (BTCFi). These fungible token standards will look to expand on Bitcoin’s utility beyond its current capabilities, with the potential of DeFi applications being created on the Bitcoin blockchain. In time this could unlock novel opportunities for Bitcoin holders and foster the growth of the BTCFi ecosystem.
