Good day everyone,
I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at how a lawyer from Argentina is seeking an Interpol Red Notice for a suspect associated with the $LIBRA fiasco.
Argentina Lawyer wants Interpol Red Notice for LIBRA Suspect
An Interpol Red Notice is a critical tool as part of international law enforcement worldwide. They were created to enhance cooperation among countries in the pursuit of individuals suspected of serious crimes and work as requests to law enforcement bodies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition. Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organisation, issues a Red Notice as a formal request from a member country to alert their law enforcement agencies about an individual wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence for a serious offense. The Red Notice does not equate to an international arrest warrant but it does requests the cooperation of member states in locating and potentially arresting the individual based on valid legal requests from the country of issuance.
When considering a Red Notice from a legal perspective, it is served to uphold the rule of law. Cases that involve serious offenses sees Interpol provide support to law enforcement agencies worldwide in their efforts to ensure accountability for criminal actions. Red Notices are also capable of acting as a deterrent, signalling to potential offenders that serious consequences await them should they flee across borders. The Red Notices can also act as a mechanism for enhancing the transparency of the international justice system as they are officially recognised in the pursuit of a suspect.
In terms of the $LIBRA scandal, which took Argentina by storm after President Midei had posted his support of the project back in February before later deleting the posts on social media, the Argentine lawyer Gregorio Dalbon has now pushed for the international detention of the token’s co-creator Hayden Davis. It was claimed by Davis that he launched the token on Milei’s behalf but later blamed the government for withdrawing support, which in turn led to the investor panic and downfall of the token.
Gregorio Dalbon filed the request on Tuesday the 11th of March with prosecutor Eduardo Taiano and Judge María Servini. As part of the filing he has requested for them to issue an Interpol Red Notice for Davis’s arrest and extradition from the US. The token had soared to a $2b market cap before crashing over 90% and it is estimated that investors lost over $250m.
Dalbon argues that Davis played a key role in the token’s rise and collapse, which Davies denies, and noted that Davis made use of political connections to fuel speculative hype before the sudden downfall. There have already been wallets connected with the token frozen as authorities are looking to close in on the cause of the fraud. Prosecutors are also seeking transaction records from foreign crypto exchanges to track missing funds. It is argued by Dalbon that Davis is considered a flight risk due to his massive financial resources and that would make it easier for him to evade justice.
It has been reported that Davis had a meeting with President Milei at Casa Rosada on the 30th of January this year and that he later acted on Milei’s behalf in launching $LIBRA. After the project failed Davis put the blame on the government and alleged that officials had first endorsed the token but later withdrew support, triggering panic. President Milei has admitted to meeting the creators of $LIBRA but has denied promoting it as an investment. Instead the president states that his comments were meant to highlight crypto’s role in supporting Argentine entrepreneurs.
Davis has publicly defended himself and even did an interview with YouTube investigator Stephen Findeisen, better known as “Coffeezilla.” As part of that interview he dismissed allegations of fraud and stated that the downfall of the $LIBRA token was to be considered a business failure rather than a deliberate scam.
If the request of Dalbon is granted that it could see a major escalation in the case by getting Interpol on board. Only time will tell if Interpol decide to get involved, but it seems that the fallout from the scandal of $LIBRA is not over yet.
Have a great day.
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
