When google was born, in the distant 1998, it grew mainly because it was able to win the sympathies of users; google was seen at the time as an ethical company model, which favored the diffusion of knowledge and, on this basis, managed to build the success that allowed it to flourish. At the time the search engines were owned by large multinationals, there was MSN from microsoft, AOL and Yahoo, all companies that the community of Internet users was happy to abandon in favor of big G. Today, at a distance of over 20 years, we have a completely different perception of google and the same people who contributed to its rise today speak very badly of it and invite users to abandon what remains the main search engine in the world in favor of more respectful solutions for privacy, such as example duckduckgo. Well, under Christmas google thought it well to antagonize the community of cryptocurrency enthusiasts and, starting from last December 23rd, started to remove the contents on youtube dealing with cryptocurrencies; the news began to spread rapidly through various social channels, from reddit to twitter, as people affected by the ban began to denounce it as a form of censorship. Youtube limited itself to signaling the account holders the deletion of the videos because they were considered "harmful or dangerous content" and hid behind the usual silence when the accounts started asking for explanations; the company replied to users who could still have appealed, however users who moved in this way were denied direct appeal and, once again, without the company providing a justification motivation of this behavior. Only a small minority among the hundreds of influencers active on YouTube are not affected by these measures, while the share of those who managed to get back online after resorting is even more reduced; many have denounced that this clearly represents an attack on freedom of expression, highlighting how the overwhelming power of large centralized platforms has now become a huge problem.
From here to start talking explicitly about boycott and migrations to decentralized platforms (such as LBRY) was a moment; here I believe that google is showing myopic behavior, probably feeling too big to be attacked does not seem to realize that it has stepped on the feet of the wrong people. Getting to the head-on collision with the cryptocurrency community is something that even a company like big G cannot afford now; in fact, we are talking about a very varied and cohesive community, capable of coordinating on a global level and presenting everything within it. Meanwhile, trivially, in the community there are a lot of developers who, once it is ascertained that the overwhelming power of google has become a problem, they could decide to damage themselves body and soul to create alternative platforms; if we consider that in the community there are very influential people such as musicians, actors, entrepreneurs, sportsmen, people who enjoy a visibility that goes well beyond the narrow niche of cryptocurrency enthusiasts and whose support for alternative platforms could contribute in an important way to empty users google here we are starting to understand why almost nobody can actually afford to take the community in the face. And we don't even go to mention the huge concentration of hacktivists in the world of cryptocurrencies, all people who can't wait to have a valid reason to start annoying Big G through global coordination. Since YouTube has not provided any explanation for now, there is still the possibility, as some users have remarked, that its behavior is justifiable; one of the reasons for this ban, for example, could be the presence of affiliate links in the videos. If it should emerge, in other words, that youtube has targeted only those accounts that exaggerate with sponsorships this would be a motivation that a large part of the community could easily understand and justify; this, however, must be publicly affirmed and demonstrated, even quickly because the community is clearly on a war footing.
PART 2: YouTube backs down on censorship of accounts dealing with cryptocurrencies, it was a mistake
