From the Lithuania Central Bank a new endorsement in favor of cryptocurrencies

If there is a country that recently is giving satisfaction to the community of cryptocurrency enthusiasts this is Lithuania, a small country but with a great innovative drive; in a recent analysis, released just yesterday, the Lithuanian central bank declared that the centralized structure around which the current economic-financial system is organized is obsolete if it comes to managing a system built on cryptocurrencies, but this should not constitute a to experience the opportunities offered by new technologies. In particular, according to the central bank, credit institutions should start investing in digital currencies in order to acquire the necessary expertise and experience to avoid being left behind. Marius Jurgilas, a member of the bank council, stated more precisely that:

It is fascinating to follow the speed with which the area of resources and virtual currencies is evolving. It is not prudent to be an occasional observer, as this puts regulators and supervisors in the anxious position of a parent who is unhappy to see that his control capacity is completely overcome. The ideal approach, instead, is to face risks and gain practical experience in a controlled environment.

Jurgilas then reiterated that the EU must be faster in keeping up with technological development or will eventually be overtaken by those who have instead approached the new blockchain technologies with less heartache and greater openness. In short, the approach of the Lithuanian central bank is what each of us would like to see in our country, characterized by a vision on technology emptied of phobias, enterprising, oriented to favor innovation and not to repress it; the words of Jurgilas, then, are what we would like to hear from our ruling class. No one expects states and institutions to go headlong on blockchain technology, without weighing up risks, limits and criticalities, and this is not the Lithuanian approach; what we simply hope to see is the willingness to compete with new technologies, accepting the advantages even when these advantages jeopardize the current status quo. What we see through the declarations that periodically prominent figures in the political life of the various countries issue is the obtuse tendency to conservatism, not so much to prevent any risk or problems but entirely oriented to the defense of the current balance and the status quo.
