POAPs are becoming more and more common in the web3 space, with many projects opting to provide them as a reward or to commemorate an event. These can serve as a powerful incentive and are generally just fun to collect.
But what is a POAP, anyway?
POAP stands for ‘Proof Of Attendance Protocol’ and is an NFT that is given as a virtual proof of attendance for an event. In this case, it is being used to commemorate the demo and prove that one was a part of this milestone in the development of Guild of Guardians.
To be a legitimate POAP, the NFT must be minted through the official POAP smart contract and contain metadata that indicates the time and date of the event. POAPS will also have a specific image associated with the event or issuer. POAPs minted through this contract are on the Gnosis chain, an Ethereum side chain. This is to keep the minting and distribution of POAPs gas-free, but any holder of a POAP can convert the POAP to the ETH Mainnet by paying the appropriate gas fees.
How do I view my POAP on Metamask?
While it is far easier to view your collection at POAP.scan, you can, indeed, view your collection through MetaMask. Follow the directions from POAP help here.
How do I move my POAP to Mainnet?
Once the POAP is on Gnosis chain and you own in, you can visit POAP. Locate your POAP, click on it, and you will have the option to migrate the POAP to Mainnet. You will need to verify the transfer and pay the gas fees to complete the transaction.
Can I sell my POAP?
POAPs are meant to be collected and reflect a person’s unique experiences, they are not meant to be bought and sold. Since most POAPs are awarded at no charge, they don’t usually hold much of a value, although there are definitely exceptions. But, yes, you can buy and sell POAPs.
To quote AlexWGomezz:
POAPs are meant to be treated more like stamps in the passport of life that gives you a reminder of where you were and what you were doing on a specific date. Overall, POAPs are versatile and an absurd amount of fun to create and collect.
Enjoy collecting them and sharing them from your POAP.xyz page!
