An unknown Ethereum user re-paid 10,668 ETH (~ $ 2.6 million) as a transaction fee of 350 ETH ($ 86,275). According to Etherscan, this time the recipient was the Ethermine mining pool.

A day earlier, the same participant paid the SharkPool mining pool the same 10 668 ETH (~ $ 2.6 million) as a transaction fee of 0.55 ETH ($ 133.71).

Today, the recipient was a different address, to which 0.012 ETH was also sent from the verified OKEx wallet. The day before, the assets received were instantly transferred to the Bithumb exchange.

Bitfly, an Ethermine operator tweeted on Twitter, "We believe that this was an accident and in order to resolve this issue the tx sender should contact us immediately!"

Users continued to speculate about the nature of transactions and sender motivation. Assumptions are made from money laundering to revenge of a disgruntled exchange employee.

The fact that different miners have become recipients of record commissions reduces the likelihood that transactions serve to evade taxes or launder funds.

Closer to the truth, there may be another version in the failure of the bot that manages this address. The large number of transactions and the automatic transfer of funds to other wallets makes one doubt that some "living" user is the account holder.

Sebastian Bürgel from the Hoprnet startup suggested that transactions are a bug in the money laundering bot due to the regularity of transactions in the sender’s account.

This version was supported by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin:

"Definitely a mistake. I'm expecting EIP 1559 to greatly reduce the rate of things like this happening by reducing the need for users to try to set fees manually."
