Virus warning: be careful when you send your BTC or ETH! updated version of the virus!

hello guys

this is a real threat and is becoming bigger as long the people are FOMO-ing around crypto.

It's not the case to build a long article to make my point. Just be careful at this:

When you want to transfer your BTC to another address, it is possible to have a slightly different address in the copy-paste process.

It seems that the updated version Trojan.Coinbitclip is detecting if you are trying to copy a text which should be a potential BTC address and then is changing it a little, enough to make you send the money to another person, other than you intended to.

It is a clear sign that your device is infected with a Trojan virus. According to Symantec databases Trojan.Coinbitclip is a malignant software that replaces several digits in the address you saved to the clipboard with other digits supplied by the virus.

Now, the bad guy is hidden in almost everything: pictures, .mp3, .mp4 files, etc

To be more specific:

How does it work?

The Trojan horse is triggered when certain digits similar to the Bitcoin address are copied. The virus uses a custom database of numerous third-party Bitcoin addresses to replace them with the recently copied address immediately after detection. If you are not sure this is a virus, you can check yourself by copying and pasting some text or a number not similar to BTC address. If, in this case, the copy/paste goes correctly, but the pasted BTC address is different from the copied one, then your device is affected by the Trojan.

If you already sent the BTC, there's nothing you can do, unfortunately.

If not, here are the options (maybe take them all):

  1. Please read the official manual for removing the virus provided by Symantec or here;
  2. Undergo a full scan of your device for malware;
  3. Make sure your device is equipped with the latest version of anti-virus;
  4. Regularly run full scans with your anti-virus software;
  5. Secure your network
  6. Keep your personal information safe;
  7. Do not click on untrustworthy links;
  8. Avoid suspicious sites and unlicensed software;
  9. Be careful next time.

There are also older viruses/trojans/malwares that are trying to steal your money, mostly focused on BTC and ETH, but is always important to check twice your addresses where to send your money before is too late.

Take care!
