Honeygain is an app that you can run in the background and it earns you credits for using your data. It seems simple, non intrusive and safe (read a lot of reviews before I took the plunge). 

So today I was a bit flummoxed when I saw this scary error on one of the mobile phones I was using it on. 

At the same time I got an email from honeygain explaining that they felt it was an error and that only one version was flagged. They recommended that users should download their latest version that was not flagged by Google. 

This is the full content ofntheir email:

Yesterday (Sept. 18, 2021), Google falsely flagged a version of our Android app (v0.9.1) as 'Fake'. As a result, Google may have disabled the Honeygain app on your device - stopping your earnings.

Here are the most important points you need to know:

- Only Android app version 0.9.1 was flagged as 'Fake'. All prior app versions 0.2.0 to 0.9.0 and 0.9.2 (newest version) are not affected.

- We have asked for an explanation, but as of this moment haven't recieved any feedback from Alphabet, Inc (Google).

- Honeygain guarantees that no core functionality of version 0.9.1 was changed in any way - the app is absolutely safe to use. (As long as it has been downloaded from our official website).

- Based on feedback that many other legitimate applications have recently been flagged as 'Fake' - we believe this was an error on the Google Play Protect tool side and we have appealed their decision.
