It is hard to find a Polkadot timeline or a Roadmap, that is why I researched on the official pages and am quoting polkadot.network.
MyQuestion was, what are the next upcoming features or releases for DOT?
Or what's the next big thing for DOT and when is it expected?
Here is what I found,
- Parachain slot auctions, which will allow parachains to get the security of the relay chain but no real timeline when this auction is happening.
- Polkadot is building XCMP (cross chain message passing) and SPREE so parachains can communicate with each other. There is no timeline to be found when this is supposed to be finished.
- Web3 Foundation launched Polkadot in Proof of Authority mode.Once the network is running smoothly and has a sufficient number of well staked validators, they will enable Nominated Proof of Stake with a Sudo call to change eras, and therefore perform the first validator election.
- Once Web3 Foundation is confident that the network is working well, functioning validator elections - the Sudo key will issue a runtime upgrade that enables Polkadot's governance system.
- Once governance enables parachain auctions and XCMP (cross chain message passing), Polkadot will have a fully functional Relay Chain. Where it goes from here is solely up to the token holders.
Outlook
Without the validator Sudo, Polkadot is fully in the hands of the token holders. The Team virtually does not make any promise when the next steps will be taken. It seems that Kusama will have a parachain slot auction in december and Polkadot there after.
In my opinion than only, when we see a fully functional decentralized network of a scalable heterogeneous multi-chain, will we know if Polkadot can compete with Eth2.0.
Do you think Polkadot has all it takes to push Ethereum of his throne?
This is no financial advise.
