PayPal is starting the cryptocurrency service

PayPal is starting the cryptocurrency service

PayPal began allowing US consumers to use their cryptocurrency holdings to pay millions of online sellers around the world. The company said customers who hold bitcoin, ether, bitcoin cash, and litecoin in PayPal's digital wallets will now be able to convert their holdings into fiat currencies at the checkout to make purchases.

"This is the first time you can seamlessly use cryptocurrencies in the same way you use a credit or debit card in a PayPal wallet," said chairman and CEO Dan Schulman prior to the formal announcement. The offer made PayPal one of the largest mainstream financial companies that opened its network to cryptocurrencies and helped fuel the rise in the price of virtual coins. Bitcoin has almost doubled in value since the beginning of this year, fueled by an increase in interest from larger financial firms that are betting on more adoption and seeing it as a hedge against inflation. The launch of PayPal came less than a week after Tesla announced that it would start accepting bitcoin payments for its cars. Unlike PayPal transactions where sellers will receive fiat currency, Tesla says it will store the bitcoins used as payment. Even so, while the assets under construction are gaining ground with mainstream investors, they have not yet become a common form of payment, partly due to persistent volatility. PayPal hopes its service can change this because traders will not take volatility risk by settling the transaction in fiat currency.

How does PayPal Crypto Cashout work?

The user will be able to select Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC) as the payment method during settlement. The cryptocurrency will convert to US dollars or other fiat currencies when you go shopping. The service, just like a credit or debit card, will work inside your PayPal wallet. Sellers will receive fiat currencies, not cryptocurrencies.

The latest offering has made PayPal one of the most important mainstream financial companies. In fact, he had been so before, but now he has definitely established himself.

Settlement in cryptocurrencies will be available at all 29 million sellers in the coming months. Interestingly, PayPal will not charge any additional commission for the execution of the transaction. Customers can only use one type of cryptocurrency for one purchase.

The new feature will automatically appear in your PayPal wallet as a payment method. The customer only needs to have enough cryptocurrency of one type to cover the purchase price. The enhancement will be adjacent to other payment methods such as bank transfer and credit / debit card.
