Who uses bitcoin: where, how and why to accept cryptocurrency

From 2009 to today bitcoin has come a long way. Not only in its price, which is often and perhaps too much talked about. Bitcoin has become in these few years a payment network used by many people accepted worldwide by thousands of merchants. At present bitcoin is widespread among nerds, technology enthusiasts and traders that we can define early adopters.

They are people united by the attraction for innovation, the desire to invest and participate in something innovative that sees them as protagonists. Feeling part of a community they prefer to frequent places where they can meet people who share their passion for bitcoin and where perhaps they can pay for a good or service with this currency. Often these are entrepreneurs or freelancers who have good spending power. One might think that bitcoin can only be used to buy on the web, being a digital currency (aka a cryptocurrency). In reality this idea is wrong.

The wallets (wallets) for smartphones allow their use even in physical stores where they are accepted. There are also "intermediate" solutions such as rechargeable credit cards, which can be loaded into bitcoins and then swiped into Euros, Dollars or Rubles.   Where and how to pay in bitcoin To find out where you can spend your bitcoins immediately, you can consult sites such as Quibitcoin.it or the BitMap app. Quibitcoin is a beta version and is also available for Android smartphones. The service looks like a simple grid where you can choose how to search for the store. It is possible to filter the results by city, category, name, map or geolocation. Shopkeepers can register independently in the directory. Bitmap is simple and essential. Available only on the Apple Store, it has no desktop site. As soon as it opens, it presents Google Maps on which the companies belonging to the bitcoin network are indicated. With a simple tap on the pin of the selected shop, contact information such as email, phone number and website are opened. Also in this case the registration is left to the freedom of the operators.

Why should a shopkeeper decide to accept bitcoin? One of the characteristics of bitcoin is that it functions as a store of value. Being a digital asset by its very nature, as it will not be possible to produce more than 21 million coins, its value towards the Euro or the Dollar tends to gradually appreciate. In 2012 a bitcoin was worth between 4 and 5 euros, in 2015 it had reached 300, today it is worth 950. Bitcoin payments are fast and protect against fraud unlike credit card. In fact, to the detriment of the belief still widespread today, a card transaction is not definitively confirmed when the receipt is issued. A charge back is possible up to 180 days after being charged, which allows the card issuing company to remove the money from the merchant at its sole discretion. Storing bitcoins is easy and safe. It is sufficient to have a computer and a wallet to start accepting them immediately. No bureaucracy with requests to be sent by fax, assessments based on the risk center and heavy installation costs or commission on the transaction.
