Hey all!
If you've been following the recent rise in institutional interest for Bitcoin and the rest of the crypto market, then you're well aware of the street cred Grayscale (the largest institutional bitcoin holder) has garnered over the years.
Today, I'll be covering what I believe are the most important points in their breaking "Bitcoin Investor Study" (AKA survey of a bunch of rich investors), along with some of my favorite statistics that are garnering notable attention from crypto news platforms such as Coindesk. (Sources listed at bottom of post.)
Let's get into it!
1. More than half (55%) of U.S. investors in survey are interested in buying Bitcoin in 2020.
Compared to the previous year, the results mark a "significant increase," the company said, with a rise of 19%.
2. The strongest stated driver for Bitcoin investments was the COVID-19 pandemic
The pandemic spurred 63% of respondents into investing, the research showed.
3. The total number of Bitcoin investors in the U.S. rose to 32 million in 2020
This is an increase of 11 million from 2019's 21 million.
4. Nearly half of respondents said they believe digital currencies would become mainstream by the end of the decade
This is one of the biggest surprises for me, I expected it to be 1/4 or less. #Bullish!
5. Total number of investors "familiar" with Bitcoin is up 9% in 2020
53% in 2019, 62% in 2020.
6. Only 40% of people aged 55-64 were familiar with Bitcoin, and just 30% would consider investing
I think we can all agree that boomers are lagging well behind on the crypto trend, and this confirms that. Times are certainly changing though, and when they do, we can expect a massive FOMO wave of the big dawgs up top.
7. Bitcoin investment is roughly double that of females
31% of males surveyed hold Bitcoin, compared to 15% of women.
8. Security concerns are still tops in the bearish camp
“Our company computer system was hacked by someone wanting a ransom in Bitcoin. I don’t trust it.”
-Female investor living in a rural area, age 37. Between $25K and $50K of investable assets.
That's all for today, folks! If a part of the report stuck out for you that I missed above, please let me know in the comments.
Keep calm and stack sats,
-Ben
