A new meme coin project called DALPY is preparing for launch on the Solana blockchain, aiming to capture investor attention with a fresh narrative centered around a grumpy sea otter mascot.

The token, which has yet to announce its official launch date, is being promoted as the first major otter-themed meme coin in the crypto market. Early social media activity on TikTok and Twitter suggests that DALPY is gaining traction organically, with users creating and sharing otter-based memes and animations.

DALPY’s developers have chosen Solana as its home chain, citing the network’s low transaction fees and high throughput as critical infrastructure for community-driven meme assets. According to data from DeFiLlama, Solana currently holds over $8.33 billion in total value locked (TVL) and processes more than $2.5 billion in daily DEX volume, making it the second-most active chain by decentralized trading activity after Ethereum.

“Solana is the most fertile ground right now for meme-driven virality,” a community contributor involved with DALPY’s marketing efforts told CoinBriefing. “We’ve seen how quickly coins like BONK and WIF moved, and we believe there’s still room for a new narrative.”

DALPY will join a wave of Solana-native meme coins launched in the wake of rising retail interest in cultural assets. While many previous meme tokens have leaned on familiar tropes — dogs, frogs, and political caricatures, DALPY’s team hopes the otter will stand out by offering a “clever and relatable” personality that can spread through user-generated content.

Solana’s active user count has exceeded 3.1 million wallets per day, and its stablecoin supply has reached $10.8 billion, providing liquidity and reach for new tokens entering the ecosystem. The chain’s total TVL has grown more than 600% year-over-year, according to DeFiLlama.

DALPY’s smart contracts have yet to be deployed, and tokenomics details remain undisclosed. However, the project has begun building a Discord and Telegram presence, with community moderators emphasizing a “fair and transparent” launch strategy.

The coin’s launch comes at a time when Solana-based meme assets have continued to outperform broader market benchmarks. According to data tracked by CoinGecko, multiple Solana meme coins posted triple-digit gains in Q2 despite overall market volatility.
