Crocodile sentenced
Bitfinex hacker Ilya Lichtenstein has been sentenced to five years in prison by the District of Columbia Court. Lichtenstein was originally supposed to be sentenced to 25 years, but the DoJ had recommended prosecutors reduce Lichtenstein's sentence in exchange for his cooperation in the investigation.

Lichtenstein stole 120k bitcoins from Bitfinex in August 2016, which turned out to be the biggest theft ever. Bitfinex even offered a reward for the return of the bitcoins, but Lichtenstein was not caught until 2022. With the help of trackers, the DoJ caught Lichtenstein and his rapper wife, Heather Morgan "Razzlekhan," in February 2022. Both of them pleaded guilty in August 2023.

We are definitely wondering what punishment will be given to Rezlekhan, i.e., Lichtenstein's wife?. Her sentence will be pronounced on November 18. Heather is a co-conspirator with her husband in this case but will probably get a lesser punishment. Anyway, the cryptoverse is now hoping that the Trump administration will make strict regulations to protect crypto holders.
