The famous Pachino tomato adopts blockchain technology
The official Consortium for the Protection of Pomodoro di Pachino IGP has entered into an agreement with Ez Lab, the SME specialized in the use of blockchain technology in agrifood. Thanks to this alliance it is possible to trace the Pachino Tomato from the field to the supermarket and thus fight counterfeiting, guaranteeing environmental and social sustainability.
From now on, the producers of the Sicilian red fruit will use AgriOpenData, the proprietary digital platform developed by EZ Lab, to immutably record all the information in the supply chain, to protect the excellence of Made in Italy. "The agreement with the Consortium for the protection of Pomodoro di Pachino IGP is the latest in a long series - said Massimo Morbiato, CEO and founder of EZ Lab - in 2016 we made the first case in the world of traceability in the wine supply chain, from the field to the bottle, creating a blockchain register for the wine of the Volpone Winery ».
Thanks to a QR Code the consumer will be able to know everything about the product chain.
All data on the Pomodoro Pachino supply chain are thus available to smartphones to counterfeit counterfeits and protect Made in Italy products. The consumer, by viewing a QR Code printed on the package, accesses the "identity card" of the product, from the field where those tomatoes were collected to the factory in which they were packaged, going up the entire distribution chain.
EZ Lab was founded in Padua in 2014 and has carried out around 40 blockchain traceability projects on chains such as wine, beer, Asiago cheese, rice, soy and pumpkin. To grow technology, the company has just launched a crowdfunding campaign on Mamacrowd to raise half a million euros. EZ Lab is among the market leaders in terms of turnover in Italy and Europe and is the only Italian company to have achieved break-even with only blockchain projects in the food sector.
