I decided to use Safari browser another day to get app like experience on the iPhone. While going to the website, I was greeted like a new user. So I decided to see what it looks like when unregistered user clicks on my article to read.
And, this was not what I expected.
I was instantly bombarded with a popup window asking me to sign up before I even had the chance to read the article. The instant popup felt very intrusive and I think most people who read a lot on the internet, instantly close the page when they see something like this.
So, here is my suggestion:
Allow unregistered users to read the article first and as they scroll down to the end, then do the popup. But show them a popup saying they are now getting rewarded for reading this article. The popup should look very similar to the tipping banner we see at the bottom after reading an article. Once they select the ratio and click “tip” take them to finalize registration, and upon completion the tips will be automatically awarded to the reader and the writer. Display pop up window that shows how much they have received. Then encourage them to read more!
I think it is the job of writers to keep those who come to the site engaged and eventually wanting to sign up.
I am not sure if Publish0x has any statistics to see how many new readers leave the site as soon as they arrive, but in my view having the popup at the end of the article will work much better in getting people to join.
Why not give it a try for a few weeks Publish0x and see how it works?
Also, would be good if we had some sort of page where users can post suggestions and we can upvote them for consideration.
