Crypto and Russia

Russia has had a complicated relationship with cryptocurrencies. In 2019, the Russian government passed a law that legalized cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, but also prohibited their use as a means of payment. The law also required cryptocurrency transactions to be reported to the government and subjected to taxation. In addition, the Russian government has expressed interest in developing its own national digital currency, known as the digital ruble.
