A bonehead simple technique I used that made my article on Medium go semi-viral. 

In April I learned or re-learned really, an old rule about making money from your writing. Write what people want to read.

Bonehead simple, I know, but considering that April was the best month as far as stats and earnings go on Medium I’ve had in over a year, I can’t argue with it.

So, what did I write? This little gem.

A friend posted on Facebook that Amazon was allowing readers to return ebooks for a full refund after they had read them. Apparently, this has been going on for a while, but it was the first time I’d heard about it.

I was of course pissed off so I wrote that little info-rant and threw it up on Medium. Mainly, so that other writers could click the link at the bottom to the change.org petition and at least feel like they were doing something about it. Also, I explained how I was pulling all of my ebooks out of Kindle Select and re-publishing them on Draft2Digital. Another way writers can take action.

I figured it would get some reads since a lot of my followers on Medium are also writers with their books on Amazon. I didn’t expect it to single-handedly give me my best month on Medium in a year though.

Makes sense though. Medium is clearly a place where writers would want to read about how the biggest book publisher/seller on the planet is ripping them off.

The downside though is that I now understand why Medium is full those “How to Make Ten Billion Dollars Writing Ten Word Stories in Ten Seconds” type bull shit articles. If you write shit about how to make money from your writing and you lie your fucking ass off about it, you just might make a shit ton of cash yourself.
