The Monolith Monsters (1957)

Starring: Grant Williams, Lola Albright, Les Tremayne

Director: John Sherwood (US)

Genre: Sci Fi, Drama

Watch Quality   A

Since this is a TV broadcast version, the audio and video quality are excellent. Of course, the drawback is that you have to watch commercials!

Plot Summary

Meteors land in the California desert, but local geologists soon discover that the strange rocks grow when they come into contact with water. But will these alien stones threaten humanity?

Star Power   D-

The actors are veterans of Sci Fi "B" movies and cheap westerns. They do a passable job, but as in most of these 1950s Sci Fi films, the aliens are the real stars.  And in this case... they're rocks.

Chill Factor   C

Perhaps the dramatic music and sense of imminent danger will encourage your Tinder date to cuddle up close? The budding romance between Dave and Cathy certainly doesn't raise the temperature.

Mental Health Check   B-

There are some tense elements to the plot, but it is not as emotionally draining as a modern film.  Nothing to keep you up at night.

Overall Grade   C

This is one of those movies that is so bad that it becomes enjoyable.  The "scientific" elements are ridiculous.  The plot is predictable for Sci Fi fans, but still satisfying.  Even the special effects are good for the time period.
