When news came out about Binance working with the DEA and when I posted about that on the r/cryptocurrency subreddit the comments were pretty mixed. Seeing these comments really excited me because for once it felt like I was seeing people having a meaningful discussion and debate about current policy instead of some devolving argument. Having read through the different sides and thinking about each person's position a question came to mind that I was interested in seeing what people thought.
Where do you draw the line with crypto businesses cooperating with governments and regulators? Given that crypto came out of an idea of not needing the government is there a situation where it is okay? When you use a CEX especially one with a KYC do you more or less surrender your cryptocurrency privacy?
Some in the subreddit were staunch defenders that under no circumstances should crypto corporate with government agencies while others thought that using a CEX meant you surrendered some of the expected privacy. Please share your thoughts in the comments below I cannot wait to see what everyone thinks!
