I have been interested in Unstoppable Domains for some time as they look to solve a couple of noticeable issues with the IoT current system. A couple of months ago I almost talked myself into purchasing a couple of domains but in the end I could not pull the trigger. I was worried about sending crypto as payment and that is a constant issue I have due to just not being used to it. After a couple of glasses of wine this weekend though I finally did it and jumped head first off the ledge snapping up my first two domains!
Right now Unstoppable Domains is undertaking a huge task and essentially is creating/issuing/selling the future Web 3.0 domains. With the current iteration of the internet websites that end in .com or .org are commonplace. The domains being purchased on Unstoppable Domains are NFT's that carry different endings. Where the current types are .com or .org these are .crypto, .wallet, among several others types. These domain names are then able to be minted and stored on the blockchain.
Initially this was done on the Ethereum Blockchain due to it being really the only one with smart contracts however due to high gas fees, transaction times, and other reasons when I purchased mine on Saturday it was the first day you could mint your NFT domain FOR FREE! This was done via the Polygon (MATIC) Network and thus started the first of four phases that Unstoppable Domains is undergoing to switchover to Polygon to be able to allow for free transitions! The minimal costs associated with minting and launching your website are paid for by Unstoppable Domains!
This had been a huge reason why I was hesitant to purchase domains earlier as the cost of minting them was so high it made the domain names pointless to buy without willing to spend some serious ETH. The utilization of Polygon gets rid of that fear completely! Minting on Polygon is part of Phase 1 and by the end of the month Phase 2 is suppose to roll out where you will be able to launch your NFT website! This also clears up a HUGE issue I had with crypto as these website can be used as wallet. In Phase 2 you will be able to add different crypto addresses and currently over 280 cryptos are supported by Unstoppable Domains. By putting all of your different wallet addresses here you can then have friends, family, clients, whoever send you crypto to the wallet address and receive it!
Lastly because they are on the blockchain and NFT's they cannot be censored by governments or anyone else for that matter! The only drawback is that not all web browsers currently have Web 3.0 capabilities automatically included. For Chrome for instance you have to add a plugin to the browser to be able to access blockchain addresses. Those who deal with crypto though really will not run into this issue since they typically already have the plugins downloaded and/or use a browser like Brave where it is already integrated in!
Unstoppable Domains is really kicking off one of the fundamental building blocks for the decentralized web or Web 3.0. These will be key in seeing Web 3.0 come to fruition and with the Metaverse gaining steam right now I personally believe it will continue to. For now though I personally plan on using mine as a catchall wallet that will be a heck of a lot simpler to remember then what the other addresses I have are..... those suckers are long and complicated to say the least!
