As I was writing this article to express my excitement about seeing the return of Ethereum as a tipping token my computer locked up. The initial article I had written has since become moot as it was about what was being replaced or if Publish0x was going back to the three tipping token system it previously had. I never imagined myself thanking my computer for locking up but here I am doing so as it allowed me to read the @igort article and let me throw my two cents in!
This move is fantastic for the Publish0x community. Due to the crazy gas fees from the end of last year to the beginning of this year Statera was an interesting token to add to the platform but one that had a place on Publish0x at the time. Times change though and like Igor mentioned with gas fees returning to a much more tolerable level adding ETH back made a ton of sense. It also returned the platform to a single blockchain which is something that I am extremely grateful for since I never used Fantom so the STA tips just kind of sat there for me. I did withdraw my first few hundred but after the first couple of weeks, I have just let them sit.
Igor though announced more than just the tipping token change. He announced some critical house cleaning that the site is going to undergo for better or for worse. Accounts that are not active and have not been for 12 months or longer will be closed. This is a fair thing to do and honestly, I am surprised that they are willing to let people remain inactive for that long!
Personally, the biggest announcement that makes the Ethereum announcement seem like a small development is the announcement that there will be a Publish0x companion app! Not only have a lot of us clamored for an app for the site/community it will bring with it additional benefits for both users of the app and people who post on the site a win-win for everyone! Having an app for the site will allow the team to try out different features and use it as a test bed for different ideas. If they are received positively then they will be implemented on the site which could help improve the site and user experience overall!
A couple of things that the app will have in version 1 have been announced and each one serves a very important role. First, those that use the app will be able to earn additional crypto on top of what they earn on the website. How this will take shape is not clear yet but what it is going to do is encourage people to use the app which will boost its visibility on the app store and encourage more users/individuals to join.
The other thing that the companion app will be doing is something many of us authors have requested previously. Selected posts will get increased exposure on the app and thus increase views, followers, and tips! For new authors starting out this would be fantastic to kickstart their writing career! Doing this could result in a whole new wave of authors joining the platform and bringing their views and understanding to the site which only makes it more valuable to the community!
This announcement is a huge step forward for the platform not only now but going forward. Moving back to Ethereum is a solid move right now with the project moving closer and closer to switching to PoS and the price being much much lower than it had previously been when they were still giving out ETH tips. It is also great to see an app being developed in the pipeline! While the first version might not be out till the end of the year seeing an app even being talked about is a huge step and something I look forward to seeing developed and released!
