With NFT’s being all the rage it has been really cool to see athletes recently launch NFTs with the soul beneficiary being others! Patrick Mahomes began the trend followed by Matthew Tkachuk. Well I am happy to say even more athletes have hoped on the train the last few days!
The first athlete I read about taking part was Pete Alonso of the New York Mets! Alonso is the starting first baseman and one of his teammates actually was the first Major League Baseball player to launch an NFT. While most athletes have chosen different charities Alonso chose to help out the players in Minor League Baseball. With how legislation is Minor League players are actually abled to be paid less than minimum wage. Many lower level players have to have at least a second job just to be able to afford to continue their dream. This was a really cool and interesting idea I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
The other professional athlete was an NFL player for the Los Angeles Ram. Safety Taylor Rupp who is an Asian American is selling 90 NFTs and will be donating a large chunk of the proceeds to the Stop Asian Hate gofundme. Rupp was a second round pick from the 2019 draft and is a high respected and very good player.
It is really really neat to see athletes take the hill by the horns and use the trend to benefit not only themselves but others! I hope to see this trend continue as this is a fantastic way to help others. If even a sliver of the amount of money spent on NFTs goes to charity huge amounts of money can be raised!
