I have been a part of a ton of different drops with NFTs over the last year or so. While some have been really smooth others have been nothing short of a disaster. When Candy Digital dropped the first MLB ICON Leadoff Series last month (Lineup 1) I would rate it in the middle in terms of how the drop played out.
The drop was not issue-free but it was able to run its course. Candy had warned customers ahead of time about the very issue that people ran into. When purchasing packs if the payment part became "stuck" or if it flashed up the words try again Candy informed users that the purchase was fine and to ignore that. A lot of us did not pay those words any attention and because of it, those like me paid the price.
As they told us each of the purchases went through. This resulted in a lot of people buying the maximum number of packs (10) at $50 apiece which with fees and taxes meant people had multiple $550 pending purchases on their credit cards. While some projects struggled or just flat out failed to handle this Candy was extremely quick to reach out to people asking them if they wanted a refund, partial refund, or the packs they had bought. I chose to do a partial refund to get some of the packs I bought and it was all fixed on my credit card in a day and a half!
Not bad at all for any type of company to say the least! The customer service was quick to respond and when they did they went above and beyond in answering questions! To fix the issues they did postpone the second release and have since released a revised schedule and adjusted the number of packs being released along with the players in each release! Here is the revised list of drops with dates and the number of packs attached.
May 3rd: Lineup 2, ~31,000 packs
May 10th: Lineup 3, ~31,000 packs
May 24th: Lineup 4, ~31,000 packs
May 31st: Lineup 5, ~31,000 packs
June 14th: Lineup 6, ~31,000 packs
June 21st: Lineup 7, ~31,000 packs
It has been amazing to watch the sales and to see these NFT cards roll out. They are pretty incredible to see and something that is really really unique and interesting. This lineup continues to have some of the biggest stars in the game from Shohei Ohtani, the two-way Japanese Superstar, to Xander Bogaerts from the island of Aruba, and Jose Altuve from Venezuela! The wide range of stars helps boost the international appeal of these MLB NFTs and with each series 8 ultra-rare Candy, World Series NFTs are released. These 8 NFTs will have utility and it will be announced at a later date!
Today's drop will occur at 12 PM EST for the general public and 10 AM EST for those who have early access for completing previous card sets among other ways! Good luck and happy collecting!
