The last few weeks there have been a couple of crypto-related hearings on Capitol Hill that I am not sure have gotten the type of publicity that they should. Over the next few days, I will break them down and explain what is going on and what the major players from both sides really say. Since I have listened to the hearings already I have to admit I have been struck by how tone-deaf one side has been in particular.
The first hearing that I will be covering is called "Demystifying Crypto" which was held by the Joint Economic Committee. For those of you not familiar this means that it is a committee that has both House and Senate members on it. Typically hearings are done with either just the House or the Senate holding them but this hearing was a joint one to really just cover some basics to help the Congress members understand. Whereas the second hearing is titled "Digital Assets and the Future of Finance: Understanding the Challenges and Benefits of Financial Innovation in the United States" and was held by the House Financial Services Committee.
I won't lie this second hearing really really showed where the two parties differ and where the titles of the opeds have made the comments about how one party has really decided to see how many votes they could use. For this hearing, 6 different leaders of their given crypto companies/sectors testified before the committee explaining and discussing what they do. It would be a disservice to crame all of this into just one article which is why I have decided to break them into a few so that it is easier to understand. Tomorrow the first part discussing the "demystifying crypto" hearing will go up and if I have time with work the first part of the "Digital Assets" hearing will go up as well but Congress is in session tomorrow so there is a chance that it could be pretty crazy,
