Golden State Warriors: First Pro Team to Launch Their Own NFTs

Golden State Warriors: First Pro Team to Launch Their Own NFTs

The NBA helped or maybe even led the explosion of NFTs this last year with the successful launch of NBA Topshots with Dapper Labs. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been generated through this platform with an absolutely crazy secondary market. With all of the recent individuals and companies hoping in on the trend according to different comments, I have read from people the NFT market this last month had a huge slowdown.

This does not surprise me though because in this space you are getting a ton of athletes, artists, and sports leagues taking part. This will lead to further adaptation by sports fans and musical artists but the initial market seems to be getting quite full. People who were also in on the early markets might have spent a ton of money on NFTs that are worth a lot less and so now they are hesitant to further collect or invest. Long term though NFTs have the backing of these sports leagues so a market for them should exist going forward.

This leads me to the newest addition to the NFT market place and that would be the Golden State Warriors team actually came in and launched their own set of NFTs. This from what I have read had nothing to do with NBA Topshots or Dapper Labs. It was launched this morning (Tuesday, April 27th) on OpeanSeas and is called the Golden State Warriors Legacy NFT Collection

With this being on the Ethereum blockchain this already differs from the NBA Topshots because that runs of Dapper Labs Flow Blockchain. Here is the item list of the different NFTs up for sale/auction.

One of the nice things I saw right off the bat with this list is that there are multiples of some of the NFTs and it is not a bunch of solo items up for sale. That just allows for more people I feel personally to take part in this sale and to establish this type of market both now and going forward. If this works out then other teams will be able to see the viability and move forward with their project accordingly.

While I personally am not a huge basketball fan and do not really follow the sport all that much this could be big for other teams moving forward so I am hopeful that it turns out well! Here is the link to the Warriors Collection. They have an interesting variety of NFTs available. I figured it would be more of action figures but that was not the case rather it is banners, championship rings, and more. Certainly, a cool thing to see done to say the least and further evidence that the NBA continues to lead in NFT adaptation by both the league and the teams!
