In December of 2022, almost three months ago now, the tipping token SPOT was introduced to the Publish0x platform. When it was first added I was not sure what exactly it was for and it did take me a couple of days to fully understand the purpose of the token. SPOT is designed to function much like a stablecoin except it is not pegged to any value and is supposed to more or less float within a range similar to AMPL. Since SPOT does not have the rebasing feature and thus does not have the volatility attached initially I was pretty optimistic that it would catch on and expand in its usage. Unfortunately, the crypto market has not been kind to anyone recently and even with the upturn in the market overall tokens like SPOT have failed to really catch a break.
Over the last couple of weeks we have seen significant movement in the crypto space and while the stock markets have been getting hammered crypto has really started to look to be in good shape. Even though SPOT is the newest coin that has been added many authors/readers have discussed not knowing what to really do with it because no CEXs accept it and the only DEX that really seems to have any sort of quantity moved through it is Uniswap and even then it is not a lot leading to users receiving a token that does not yet have a ton of functionality. As a result, most of the comments I see about it are people not withdrawing it and just letting the crypto sit waiting for it to be swapped out.
With that in mind, I decided to look into possible projects, chains, etc. to see if there were any I could find that I think would be good fits for Publish0x. I did this by looking back at former coins/tokens Publish0x used to see if the coins/tokens I came up with would fit in with what they have done before. Before SPOT was added it replaced Statera. Others that previously were used, in order from most recent to oldest, are FARM (from Harvest Finance), Loopring (LRC), and Basic Attention Token (BAT). The wide range of these token applications/use cases told me that Publish0x was not afraid to pivot in a new direction and try something new which was extremely important to see!
I broke down the replacement for SPOT into really two different groups. One would be different blockchains/Layer 2's that are extremely popular while the other one was based on projects that I think could really have something going for them.
Blockchains/Layer 2 Options
When Statera was added it brought about a whole new blockchain which I believe added a great new dynamic to the site I hope to see brought back. I think that Polygon (MATIC) or Layer 2's that are still in the process of fully decentralizing like Optimism (OP) or Arbitrum's token from its upcoming airdrop. This gives Publish0x established Layer 2 solutions for people to interact with that would save Publish0x money as well as allow users who might have only ever used Ethereum to try out these Ethereum-compatible chains!
Projects
Projects are a little bit harder to pick and chose with because the winter has really hurt a ton of them. One that is down right now and has been used before by Publish0x that I would not mind seeing brought back would be BAT. The Brave team has continued to add new features and functions to their core product, the Brave Browser, as well as build in more and more crypto functionality.
Since Socios.com is gearing up its US launch Chiliz (CHZ) would also be another interesting project to add as a tipping token. It is on several chains now while also looking to build out its own. Given how far ahead the Socios.com team seems to be in the sports/blockchain world as well as the incredible investments and funding they have behind them they appear to be in a very healthy place.
My favorite one for them to add though that I think would really really be a win for the platform would be The Graph (GRT) which serves a fantastic and unique role in the web3 and blockchain ecosystem. It also has the ability to generate passive income by deligating or even indexing projects something that really does require its own article to discuss what it is and why it is so important. With the recent AI news and bull run The Graph is in a prime position to be able to leverage this and has. Having that ability to earn passive income is what has really stuck out to me and why I wanted to add GRT to this list.
Final Thoughts
One of the big things that I tried to do with this list was to find projects that were in the top 100 and are either leaders or solve an important and unique problem. Bitcoin was eliminated due to its price and what it would cost to send it to different wallet addresses. I also eliminated BNB because of the issues that Binance is currently facing and the companies that work with them. Binance scored a lot of wins last year however this year has been nothing but a disaster for the company with BUSD effectively dying.
