This is a post that serves as much as a discussion as it is a question.
Specifically, on your perception and opinion on the (potential) anonimity of the blockchain.
I get the feeling that a lot of people still consider 'crypto' to be anonymous, especially since it was the main payment option for dark-web marketplaces. However, this feels a bit strange to me, as essentially, the blockchain provides extremely clear and traceable ways to figure out the path that transactions took for funds to end up in any specific wallet.
Especially with the current KYC regulations, and the transparency provided by the blockchain, I would actually consider crypto to be completely not anonymous. At least not fully. Because, yes, some level of pseudonimity is provided. Suppose I send any of you any amount of crypto. You don't (immediately) know who I am.
However, you could find out exactly from which wallets those coins/tokens came from, and figure out past transactions, which can all tell a pretty revealing story. Should you be an institution that either has access to KYC data or can pressure any relation company with KYC data (or even a past/future data leak), my identify can be tied to all connected wallets and transactions.
Of course, services like mixers exist, or even more anonymous cryptocurrencies. Which are good counter arguments and are supportive of the 'anonimity' in crypto.
What is your view on cryptocurrency and anonimity (or lack thereof)? How do you deal with your identity being tied to your wallet(s) and transactions? Do you care? Do you take any precautions?
