Years ago, before Game of Thrones, before Harry Potter, before cryptocurrency, there was an epic saga of humans, elves, dwarves, kender, and dragons. It was a magical land that will seem vaguely familiar to you if you’ve ever played Dungeons and Dragons: Dragonlance.
The Dragonlance Chronicles, written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, captivated a generation of fantasy readers. It started as a trilogy, but over the span of nearly two decades, the universe was populated with over a hundred books. The Dragonlance universe, Krynn, was a world you could immerse yourself in. In addition to a multitude of books, there was a (very bad) movie made of the first book, Dragons of Autumn Twilight.
The Dragonlance universe has been silent for years, although the authors have continued to write books. The sleeping dragon has been stirring today, promising to wake sometime in the next couple of years (publishing is a very slow process): Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have announced new books in the classic Dragonlance world.
I for one am very excited about this announcement. Dragonlance has a special place in my heart. Dragons of Autumn Twilight was the first Christmas gift my now husband ever gave to me. We named our kids after Dragonlance heroes. Even the book I am currently querying has elves and dragons in it, and was, in some ways, inspired by this world.
I wish this new book series tons of success and hope it brings new readers to the amazing universe of Krynn.
