Ironman (2008) is a pop culture classic.
17 years later, Ironheart (2025) debuts as an attempt to pass the torch.
The names have changed and the players are not the same.
The main character of the show, Riri Williams, made her first MCU appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Ironheart (2025) is her spinoff series and origins story.
The core of the plot and character interactions feel like they're from the 1980s, intended to appeal to generation X'ers. Leaving me with an impression generation X is the biggest demographic consumer of netflix original content. While millennials and younger generations presumably trend more towards social media and short attention span based IP.
Not to say Ironheart (2025) doesn't make an attempt to cater to younger viewers. Current era slang like the term "sus" can be found throughout. Making Ironheart a unique blend of 1980s and 2025. Which winds up being one of its biggest flaws: trying to cater to & please everyone.
On a personal level, I loved Ironman (2008) and hoped Ironheart (2025) would be a worthy successor the original MCU franchise might pass the torch to.
While not entirely disappointing, Ironheart's potential remains unrealized.
Hopefully it'll pick up if renewed for season 2. Where at least one super villain never seen in the MCU is foreshadowed to make their debut.
All in all, I'd rank Ironheart (2025) 6.5 / 10. Higher than its IMDB ranking of 4.4.
The bar for MCU content being set so high, hollywood has to bring its A game to maintain consistency.
