Here you will find a list of descriptors that may be necessary to understand my angle in my game reviews. I created this to remove the need for boilerplate in my blogs and also to minimize conversations where I am repetitively explaining myself. From here on out, I will refer you to this blog. Refusing to read and acknowledge this will not grant you more of my time.
- I have a massive game backlog and a very demanding professional life, so my free time is at a premium to me.
- I absolutely am not a snob about gaming and will spend many hours on a "stupid" or "silly" game if it keeps me entertained (See: Hatoful Boyfriend)
- I'm mostly platform neutral. Many companies annoy me with their policies, but for the most part I will play any company's game on whatever platform without any sense of "fanboi"-ism.
- I believe in the concept of the $400 game (the game you want to play so badly, you buy the console for it), but I have to reeeeeally want to play it.
- I rarely show much interest in games surrounded by excessive hype and pretty actively dodge whatever the current "it" game is until the bandwagon leaves town.
- I generally don't play team sports games or first-person shooters. I added "team" to sports games because I do like a lot of freestyle games like Dave Mirra or Tony Hawk and surprised myself at how much I liked Wipeout HD.
- I don't have to be good at a game to like it. This is important, because I am not great at most games. :)
- I do not put any value in a game designed to "test my mettle". I'll spare you all the defensive jibber jabber about my life being enough of a challenge and just say, "No thanks."
- I can be a tad OCD/completionist. I used to be an achievement hunter and then sort of had an awakening about it. I'm still prone to a little backsliding into the compulsion to platinum/100%/whatever, but I prefer not to go down this road if I catch myself.
This manifesto is not exhaustive and will be updated whenever I feel like it.
