Binance Expands Operations in Brazil with Acquisition of Sim;paul and New Bill Could Boost Cryptoasset Market

In early 2025, the Central Bank approved Binance's purchase of the brokerage Sim;paul, making it the first cryptocurrency platform to obtain a securities brokerage license in Brazil. With this approval, Binance now has access to the Brazilian financial system, allowing transactions via Pix (the instant payment system created by the Central Bank) without the need for intermediaries.

In addition to cryptocurrency transactions, Binance will be able to offer investments in other assets, such as government bonds and other financial instruments. This could increase the circulation of capital in the Brazilian economy, making the financial market more dynamic and accessible.

The Brazilian political scene is facing challenges, including corruption cases and discussions about freedom of expression. In this context, the advancement of the cryptocurrency market could attract investors seeking greater security and diversification for their assets.

Currently before the Chamber of Deputies is Bill 4501/2024, authored by federal deputy Eros Biondini, which proposes the creation of the Sovereign Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (RESBit). The aim of the bill is to allow the federal government to diversify part of its international reserves by purchasing cryptocurrencies, limiting this allocation to up to 5% of total reserves. The proposal is still under discussion and could be voted on at any time.
