Good morning everyone! Today we are going to see and compare some benefits and risks of Metaverse. We already introduced Metaverse and talked about VR vs Metaverse in the recent articles.
We know that Metaverse has become one of the hottest topics of discussion in the tech world, especially after big companies start investing. Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Sony and many other giants are diving into Metaverse with their unique platforms. The concept of the metaverse only gained traction after Facebook announced a rebrand to Meta in October 2021.
Now, let’s see the benefits that metaverse can bring to us, but also let’s check what kind of risks are behind this new technology.
Metaverse has many potential benefits/pros, including:
- Education: can be used to provide an immersive educational experience. For example, it can be used to teach people about history or other cultures.
- Work: can be used for a better multidimensional experience for meeting and conferences.
- Healthcare: can be used to help people with physical therapy, pain management, and mental health conditions such as anxiety and PTSD.
- Entertainment: can be used to provide immersive gaming experiences and other forms of entertainment.
- Training: can be used to train people in jobs that require skills.

There are also some potential risks/cons associated with metaverse, including:
- Cyber Sickness: This is a condition that can be caused by prolonged use of VR and can lead to symptoms such as nausea and dizziness.
- Eyestrain: VR headsets cause eyestrain as they block out the real world and replace it with a digital environment.
- Seizures: Some people have seizures that are triggered by certain types of stimuli, including flashing lights. This can be a risk for VR headsets that use fluorescent lights.
- Internet Connection: metaverse is a graphics-heavy environment. Being a part requires a fast and reliable internet connection such as a fiber-based connection.
- Utility and Relevance: It’s a question if society really needs a VR right now. How to use it in real life? Can it improve human interactions?
I heard some bad feeback about Oculus Quest. Some people were able to use it only for a few minutes. Someone tried to use it for improve productivity, but it doesn’t work.
Have you already had some metaverse or VR experiences?
If you have already used Oculus Quest what is your opinion about it?
