The king has lost its crown - OpenSea loses number 1 spot as world's top NFT marketplace

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 5 Sep 2024

Last month, OpenSea lost its number one spot on the list of world's top NFT marketplaces.

That particular title was snatched by Magic Eden, which generated $122.47 million in trading volume in August, which is equivalent to 36.7 percent market share.

Magic Eden, for reference, supports NFTs on Ethereum, Solana, Polygon and Bitcoin.

And Magic Eden actually beat OpenSea by a significant margin.

Last August, OpenSea's trading volume was as 'low' as $66 million, further proof that what was once the world's best-known NFT marketplace is perhaps falling behind.

OpenSea has also recently lost one of its key figures, who moved to Meta.

Generally speaking, NFT sales volumes are down, and they keep falling, but they're still impressive.

Last August, over $400 million worth of NFTs changed hands.
