Kraken's security chief warns crypto users, "stop doing this"

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 16 Jun 2025

Kraken's security chief Nick Percoco made a very good point in a blog post he shared earlier this month.

According to Percoco, people who attend crypto conferences and events fail at "basic situational awareness".

Percoco said he's been seeing too much of this, and he calls it a "troubling trend".

“If you’re in crypto, your digital device is not just a phone or a laptop. It’s a vault to you, your crypto assets and your broader employer’s operation,” he said.

“Always keep your devices in close proximity and locked when you are not using them.”

“Even if you don’t think anyone’s listening, someone very well might be. Be discreet to protect yourself and those around you,” he added.

Percoco makes a very, very, very good point.

People are so nonchalant when it comes to their crypto holdings.

This is especially true when we consider how bad actors are learning that the best and most effective way of stealing crypto is doing it physically, by physically threatening people you know holds crypto.

This is why Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong spends a fortune on personal security.

But ultimately Percoco is right.

If you're a crypto 'bro', do not leave your phone/laptop unattended, possibly do not know hold funds in a platform that can be easily accessed via aforementioned devices and please, please, do not openly say you're so rich in crypto when people are listening.

It's not worth it.
