Today I happened upon the news of a guy who got 7,000+ BTC for a job and lost the password to the encrypted HDD in which he stored his Bitcoins.

It's a well-known story, it happened a long time ago and it resurfaces every once in a while. Probably because media outlets are constantly recycling old news.

Then there's the equally (in)famous story of the guy who threw away a hard drive with 8,000 BTC.

I've got a horror story of my own, I'm afraid, when I lost access to half a Bitcoin because of eToro (long story, technical glitch, they called it).

And then another one, just two years later, when again I lost half a Bitcoin because of a hack - and this time I'll share part of the blame because I was a bit careless.

We keep telling each other these stories as a little reminder. Like a little don't-screw-this-up.

My hope is that horror stories such as these will become less frequent.

We're not kids anymore, crypto-wise, we've been around for a while. We know what to do and what not to do. Or at least we should.

It's time to start paying more attention.
