And still no one knows where Ross Ulbricht's BTC came from

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 9 Jun 2025

Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road who was recently pardoned by US President Donald Trump, received a crypto donation of 300 BTC, worth around $31 million when he got it.

No one knows why, but internet and crypto sleuths concluded the crypto wallet sending the donation may have been linked AlphaBay, which is another (now) defunct darknet marketplace that operated from 2014 to 2017.

ZachXBT, one of the aforementioned crypto sleuths, described the donation as "legitimate, but not legitimate funds".

The donor’s identity remains unknown, for now, and it'll likely remain unknown especially if Ulbricht decides not to spend or move those funds, which he probably won't do anyway.
