The Mouchão olive tree is more than 3,350 years old and is well preserved in the parish of Maurice, municipality of Abrantes. Its height reaches almost eight meters, and the width of the trunk is more than six meters. A person can stand quietly at the base of the tree.

The tree is protected by an earthen wall to protect the roots of the olive tree from drying out. The dating of the age was carried out in 2016 by researcher Jose Luis Louzada from the University of Trashe-os-Montes and Alto Douro. At that time, the measurements gave the following values: Perimeter at the base: 11.2 meters Barrel circumference: 6.5 meters.

This Mouchão olive tree still bears fruit and produces two varieties of olives: "one variety is Galician, and the other is wild, smaller in size. It was a technique introduced to Portugal by the Phoenicians. They used a hardier wild olive tree, which was then grafted with a more valuable type of olive tree variety to improve the quality of the olive oil.

In the vicinity of Oliveira do Mousao and the surrounding areas, there are hundreds of Portuguese olive trees that have already reached a thousand years of age, as the olive tree has an amazing ability to rejuvenate and regenerate.
