A New Beginning part1

Hello, I'm Byron from Canada and I draw zombies. I used to want to draw superhero comic books for companies like Marvel, but that didn't pan out.

Instead I turned to the dark side and let the zombies in. No regrets.

As many of you know, I took my artwork to the metaverse and began minting and selling NFTs on the WAX blockchain.

It has been an amazing experience that has opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for me. But it's kinda lonely doing this by myself, so I started to get my family in on it. We all did really well during the bull market, but my family also burned out and lost interest. They all have lives and this isn't easy work to do on a daily basis, so I get it. Making art is hard at first.

Fast forward a year or so and many conversations with my wife I finally came up with a plan to help her get over whatever mental barriers she has and help her fan the flames of her artistic side while also teaching her more about how to do this on her own. Not to be morbid or anything, but the less she has to rely on me  the better plus she needs to learn the tech side in case  something happens. Life eh?

I am going to do my best to slowly but steadily and firmly immerse her in my online world. I don't expect this will be very hard to do as long as we make little efforts every day and keep the long game in mind. The biggest benefit of this is that she gains more independence and grows artistically. Additional benefits are the obvious mushy ones of being closer, connecting better ... you know, relationship stuff.

The slightly selfish benefit is that once she sees how my world works, she'll find ways to help me run it all smoother. Thinking long term here.

But before we get to the technical side of things again, we both need to rekindle the passion for making artwork and we do that by first breaking down the wall that is stopping us from moving forward. The artistic block. I wrote a brief article about some of the ways I try to get out of my artistic blocks and I needed to come up with something that M and I could do together that also builds towards what we want to build.

The idea is pretty simple. 5 or 6 pieces of 4"x6" paper taped down on a board, close together. The take a brush and apply a single colour of paint to each one. Then select a different colour and do it again. Then again and again and again. Do it quickly and without over thinking. By the time you have put the 3rd or 4th colour on each one, ideas will form and you will start to apply unique touches to each piece.

I'm a fast and slightly sloppy artist, while M is much more meticulous and tidy than I am, so we both had different starts. She filled her page with a solid colour first, while I haphazardly sloshed paint across the pages as fast as I could. It was a lot of fun though. We talked and laughed and both did our thing. I do wish I had taken a few more progress shots of her work because it's really amazing how her work flowed from being cautious to being a little more care free.

By the end of the night we both completed some experimental barrier breaking artworks and had a great time together. She is excited to try it again tonight and start making it part of our routine. Next up for this batch of artwork though ... minting it and selling the originals.

Our goal is to mint 10 copies of each painting and sell them for 20 WAX each. Preminted for randomness and dropping all at the same time or staggered? These are questions that need answers ... leave a comment.

The other goal is to sell each painting for $20 - this will help force her to learn how to help me mail out artwork. That's my biggest weakness and I know that with her help I can over come it. See how selfish I am?
Next article will cover each artwork and where to buy it.
Thanks for reading!
