It goes without saying that Live streaming is not a fad and is not going anywhere. Twitch is one of the most popular out of all available streaming platforms. Over the years we have seen Twitch and its regulations getting tougher on users, banning people making the rules stricter. Pushing the platform slowly more towards that ultra clean-cut image. But let’s be honest. Is Twitch the best platform to stream on? With Blockchain technology we have seen a number of different decentralized startups bring new platforms to the table, one being Dlive a new live streaming platform.

So today we are going to compare Twitch and Dlive as streaming platforms   What’s the difference between Twitch and Dlive     

Twitch  

It all began in 2007 under the domain name Justin.tv, then a solely 24/7 live streaming platform for the life of Justin Kan, co-founder of Twitch. Then in June 2011, Twitch.tv became the spinoff and by February 2014, it was considered the 4th largest source of peak Internet traffic in the U.S., predominantly streaming video game and eSports channels.   

Back in 2014, Twitch had already become a success, selling to Amazon for a billion dollars, it was already a viral pass-time; kids to young adults watching live streaming at home. Video game streams became the main product, but soon after music, web talk shows, creative art, and even “In Real Life” streams. But what Twitch has in a variety of different services, conventions, hype, and broadcasting rights to eSports competitions, NBA, and most recently NFL games, it lacks in providing it’s users the ability to provide feedback, playing an active role in contributing to the success of the platform, making suggestions with what could help make the platform better from the perspective of the everyday user.

  In the past, we have seen Twitch regulations banning people or new users even scared off from the platform due to having to follow more and stricter rules and policies. This than is pushing the twitch platform slowly more towards that ultra clean cut image, that place for the people who want to keep it Ultra clean and managing their content in a very civil and by the book way. This is both necessary and great.  

  How Twitch Pays Its Creators 3 Ways of earning money for the content with Twitch   Twitch allows for the creator to have 3 ways of earning money for the content they provide (not including via 3rd party services Streamlabs or Patreon).   

The 1st way is from a viewer making a monthly subscription of $5 or more for a wide variety of different perks like Discord access and exclusive custom emotes.   

The 2nd is by purchasing an in platform type of faux currency known as ‘Bits‘ that can be distributed as the viewer pleases, with each ‘Bit’ is worth 1 cent, in return for special Twitch badges.   

The 3rd avenue is for Twitch Partners only, and that is from ad revenue, a payout that can fluctuate drastically based on the time of year.

These avenues of earnings all funnel into the same avenue of being compensated by the platform, with Twitch taking their cut of up to 50%.  

Dlive  

On the other hand, Dlive is still in a very lightly regulated space, still allowing free speech & some NSFW streams! Which is a great and for those who wish to have a publishing outlet but find themselves censored on the platforms.

Unable to give their honest opinions unfiltered to be who they truly are. I first found DLive through the streamer “Pewdiepie” and To be honest, it is a home for not just the rebels but for those who have a voice that wants it to be heard by literally ANYONE who is willing to listen. Its a great streaming platform with a great community side to it and most of the streams are from young streamers streaming alot of different games. Dlive is on a service that runs on the blockchain as part of a network called Steem.

I am sure you are already familiar with the Steem blockchain and the rewards associated with it, If you don’t know about Steem check it out here. So Dlive aims to provide both live streaming and video upload services directly integrated with the Steem blockchain. In other words, DLive is part of something bigger than just Dlive, offering rewards off the blockchain curated from other viewers, in proportion to the content provided.      

Yes, DLive doesn’t have many users for now but there is more engagement on the channels that stream and get a few people in my chat on a daily basis, and a few of those viewers have come from Twitch and are now on both Steemit and DLive. I will certainly be watching out and using both of these platforms but as Dlive evolves, I really hope it sticks with it’s identity as a decentralized site for people to fully and openly express themselves without a large amount of higher power moderation.  Thanks for taking the time to read this post....
