If you don't know why proteins need folding, or how the heck you would do that, don't worry - you don't need to. It's all done by your computer, using the Folding at Home client.
Folding at Home is, I dare to say, a movement. It's a project based on distributed computing - many computers working together to solve problems - and, in particular, aims at forwarding research to develop therapeutics for diseases including COVID-19, Alzheimer's, Huntington's Disease, and Cancer. It uses the power of your computer's CPU and GPU to simulate protein dynamics in the background, while you use your computer for your everyday stuff.
If that's not enough to get you interested, you can get paid to do it. All you need is a computer and a Banano Wallet. I've been trying it out for a few days, and so far I have received around 453 Banano. That's an average of 151 Banano per day. With the current price of Banano at around $0.005, that amounts to $0.75/day. My computer is around 8 years old, and has a GPU. I'm assuming most of you have newer, more powerful computers, so you can reasonable expect to make more than I do!
If anything, it's a worthy cause, so I'd encourage you to participate even if you had no financial incentive to. But, if you are here to find out how to make money, here is how it works.
Getting a Banano wallet
This is very easy. Simply download the Kalium app on your phone, open it up, backup your secret phase, and bam! You have a Banano wallet. Click on "Receive", then on Copy Address. Keep that address in mind, we are going to need it so you can get paid.
Getting the Folding at Home client
This is also pretty straight-forward. Head over to https://foldingathome.org/#downloads and click on your operating system. You are most likely using Windows, except if you have a Mac. If you are running Linux, then you already know that, and I don't have to tell you :)
After the download, follow the instructions to install the Folding at Home client. Open up the client. Almost there.
Joining the Banano Team
In order to get paid for your contributions, you need to be part of the Banano Team. To do this, head to https://bananominer.com/ and paste in the address you copied from your Banano wallet. That is going to give you a team number and a unique name. Then, go to the Folding at Home client, and in the Team field, paste your team number (this is going to be the same for everyone in the Banano team). In the name field, place your unique name. This will be used to credit your wallet with your Banano!
Start Folding
Last but certainly not least, start folding those proteins! Don't be surprised if the jobs take a while. CPU jobs are shorter than GPU jobs, and they can take many hours each. You will get Banano after every job is complete, but not before the job is complete, so be patient!
